This lively presentation will combine discussion about and brief clips from 13 documentary films directed by Mike. It will engage people ten years of age and older. An award-winning director with five national PBS releases among his credits, Mike will share behind the scenes stories about how he makes films that are authentic and beautiful. He will answer questions.

Mike Hazard Biography:

Mike loves to use a camera to see the world through another person's eye. Because almost nobody earns a living making authentic documentaries, Mike works as an artist-in-the-schools to pay the bills. Mike says "Once upon a good time in sixth grade, my Dad took me out of school to help him film a story about the radical abolitionist, John Brown. Almost fifty years later, when people asked why I love the camera, I always laugh with the story that starts, "In the beginning, I got out of school".

A recent Bush artist fellow, Mike has made five films that have enjoyed national release on PBS. His short C. Beck is a recent Grand Prize Winner of the ITVS Short Film Competition. His documentary on the late politician and poet Eugene McCarthy was awarded the D.L. Mabery prize, Minnesota's Oscar.
